1/3 Hunter drivers test positive for drugs
Police are concerned about the staggering amount of Hunter who are getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.
Operation Mega Drive Three took place over the week targeting speed, alcohol and drug driving. Around 100 people were charged with a range of offences, while nearly a third of the drivers who were tested for drugs returned a positive result. Senior Sergeant Tony Grace from Highway Patrol says the results are a major concern.
“We only conducted 283 drug tests and to get over 80 detections is significant,” he said.
“However we need to eduate the community more that they cannot drive a motor vehicle if they’ve taken an illicit drug.”
